Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 March 2026
1. What we collect
- Gameplay data (anonymous by default): Your answer text, the prompt you answered, and the time you submitted. We use a device fingerprint (derived from browser and network info) to prevent duplicate submissions and to count your streak on this device.
- Optional account data: If you choose to save your streak across devices, we store your email address or phone number so we can link your streak to you. We do not use this for marketing unless you opt in separately.
- Admin sign-in (SSO): If you sign in to access the admin area, we use a third-party provider (Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Meta/Facebook). That provider shares your email address and optionally your name and profile picture with us. We use this only to verify that you are an allowed administrator and to maintain your sign-in session. We do not use SSO data for marketing. Each provider’s own privacy policy applies to their processing of your data.
- Aggregate data: How many people gave each answer (e.g. “42 people said ‘library’”). This powers the game and may be used for research or editorial purposes in anonymized form.
- Optional analytics: If you accept analytics cookies, we use PostHog to understand how the game is used (e.g. page views, submission counts). No advertising or third-party tracking beyond that.
2. What we don’t collect
- Precise location (we may infer rough region for time zones only)
- Behavioral tracking or session recording beyond what’s above
- Third-party advertising identifiers
- Data from children under 13 knowingly
3. How we use your data
To run the game (show prompts, score answers, display streaks and top answers), to persist your streak if you linked email/phone, and to improve the service. Aggregate answer data may be used for language or creativity research and could be shared in anonymized form (e.g. as a dataset). We do not sell your personal data.
4. Cookies
We use essential cookies (e.g. to remember your linked account so your streak follows you). If you sign in to the admin area with Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Meta, we use a session cookie to keep you signed in. If you consent, we use analytics cookies (PostHog). You can change your preferences at any time via the cookie banner or by clearing site data.
5. Retention and your rights
We keep gameplay and aggregate data as long as the service runs. You can ask us to delete your optional account data (email/phone) and we will unlink it from your streak. For access, correction, or deletion, contact us at the address below.
Right to be forgotten: You may request that we delete or anonymize the personal data we hold about you (e.g. email, phone, or account linkage). We will process such requests within a reasonable time and confirm when done. Some data may remain in anonymized or aggregate form where it is no longer attributable to you. To submit a request, email us at the contact below.
6. Contact
For privacy questions, data requests, or to exercise your rights (including the right to be forgotten): privacy@doubletheWHY.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
